Re: Being Australian, I wish we had some classic Australian TV on here |
Why can't you comment on the shows I mentioned instead of talking about "Phoenix Five"? Surely you'd like to see at least one of them?
Little Australian TV survives from the 1950s/1960s. I'm shocked that anything exists from "Phoenix Five". Plenty of far better-known and more popular series have no or few surviving episodes (example: "Bellbird", a 1970s soap opera for which nothing exists except the feature-film spin-off).

Sorry, but whenever I try to talk about Australian TV on sites like here, YouTube and IMDb, nobody is willing to talking about anything except the heavily censored US version of "Number 96", and the US series "Captain Kangaroo" (which has nothing to do with Australia).

That won't begin to enter the public domain until 2018 or 2019 or so....but at least it'll be within your life-time, unlike "Amos and Andy".
I'm 95% certain that Australian TV copyrights last 50 years. Anyone able to confirm/deny?

Re: Being Australian, I wish we had some classic Australian TV on here |
As it turns out I have two kinescope copies of IMT episodes. One is from 1961 - I'll upload it soon. The other is from 1964 so I'll have to wait a while. the 1964 episode is in better shape than the 1961 episode (the '64 is the first program made in Studio 9).
Still doing research on the profile series. Can only find limited references and the films contain no copyright date or broadcast information.

That would be great!! Would it be possible to upload it as an MPEG2?
Where did you get it, anyway? I'd love to have a DVD-R of it.
This excites me very much!! I've always wanted to see an episode of it.

Re: Being Australian, I wish we had some classic Australian TV on here |
You've piqued my curiosity. Maybe very little survives as the networks over there junked or never recorded the old shows, The BBC is certainly guilty of that. There is much early DOCTOR WHO episodes that no longer exist for that reason. It's too bad, really. A lot of these old shows would be worth watching now, from a historical standpoint if anything else.

Re: Being Australian, I wish we had some classic Australian TV on here |
Yes, the copyright term for Australian TV is 50 years. I have some early Australian TV. Most of my Australian TV collection is from the early 70s though (I have some very rare 70s variety specials)
I think I have a couple of things that could be PD, I'll look around and see what I can find.
-I have at least one complete episode of IMT, but I'd have to check the date of broadcast to see if its out of copyright.
-I have a series of celebrity profile docos which I think are from the early 60s. I'll check the date and let you know if they can be uploaded.
